Birth Defect Registry Data on Agent Orange

The National Birth Defect Registry sponsored by Birth Defect Research for Children collects data on birth defects and disabilities in the children of Vietnam veterans. To view charts on these cases, go to this slide presentation which was made to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. http://www.birthdefects.org/NIEHS/3510.html To add your child's case to the registry, go to www.birthdefects.org and click on the registry on the home page.

The statistics continue to reinforce Agent Orange has hurt so many of us. It is really disheartening. The VA is recognizing some birth defects that have occurred in children of Women Veterans. The children of male soldiers (like me) continue to wait as our fathers pass away at troubling rates. Thank you to the Birth Defect Registry for compiling this information.

THANK YOU FOR THIS GREAT REGISTRY. SINCE MY HUSBAND IS SUFFERING FROM MANY PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH AGENT ORANGE, WE HAVE DISCOVERED THEY WERE LOOKING INTO THE PSORIASIS PROBLEM BUT THEY DONT WANT TO ACCEPT IT. WE HAVENT HEARD IF THEY WOULD ACCEPT CEREBRAL PALSY AS A MOTOR DYSFUNCTION. MY SON THAT IS 22 IS COLLECTING ALL THIS INFORMATION TO GO AFTER THE GOVERNMENT FOR NOT ONLY RUINING HIS LIFE BUT POSSIBLY HIS SISTER ALSO AND FOR DENYING HIM A NORMAL FATHER AND HIS EARLY DEATH. THANKS AGAIN SO MUCH

Hi, my name is Racheal Zimmerman and my father is a Vietnam Veteran. He was there during the tet offensive in the Marines. I have had alot of health problems, but I have never been diagnosed with anything yet. I am getting the same problems as the actual Veterans with Agent Orange have. From very early on in life I would get these horrible sores under my arms and later spread to my face, I think it is chloracne. I have scars from it. I also have had gastrointestinal problems, and numbness in my hands and feet. I also had feet problems when I was born. I now have 2 children they are 6 and 8, and now they are getting rashes on their skin. My son was born with an extra hole on his bottom. My father has renal clear cell carsinoma, which is not listed as one of the cancers on the Agent Orange list, but you can't tell me that when he was drinking that horrible water in Vietnam that it did not come from there, after all, doesn't that filter through your kidneys. I just knew I was not the only one out there having problems. Today I made a call to the dept. of defense and the local VA and both places told me they have never heard of any of the children of the Veterans having any problems. I guess I should not have expected any different. My father did just get 100% service connected disability, but the way I see that is he should have been getting that along time ago. Something needs to be done! I know I have suffered my whole life, but when it comes to my children I refuse to sit and watch it happen to them. It makes it very hard when the Government is saying these are the only symptoms that are recognized in the Children of the Vietnam Veterans. Not only that, but its hard to get a diagnosis when Dr's don't realize anything much about Agent Orange. I think the Government should at least provide some kind of treatment center for those of us that cannot go to a VA medical center. What can we do to help ourselves and others out there?
Sincerely,
Racheal Zimmerman

My father is a Vietnam Veteran, and I too have suffered from illnesses my whole life: Many that doctor's cannot explain. I have not yet received a diagnosis as the doctor's don't know what to do with me - they have speculated on illnesses such as Lupus, Behcet's syndrom, Lime Disease, and the list goes on and on. Through my own research with a woman who worked with organizations on Agent Orange, I am currently under the impression that I suffer from either Variegate or Hereditary Porphyria. My wish is to find a doctor that could help me with my symptoms when they occur and help me to get this under control. Life is short enough as it is and to be in pain or experience other severe symptoms in the short time that we are here just doesn't seem right. It seems as though the government needs to step in and take responsibility for the position they placed both our parents and us in.

It is weird my mom had alot of miscarriges with my dad and now I know why agent orange. there should be somekind of compensation to the children of vietnam vets who have health problems related to agent orange. Alot mroe research should be done.

My father was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam. Among the various medical problems he has had, my 11 y.o. brother died of Burkitt's Lymphoma in the 80's and I am a survivor or Hodgkins disease (dx at age 29) How can that not be related????

Hi, I'm new to this whole agent orange thing. My father is dying of cancer that has been declared a cause of agent orange. He told me he was applying for it to be compensated and he was approved. I started looking into it and now I know why I have the many health problems I have. I too suffered from various illnesses as a chile and as an adult. Chloracne, headaches, endometriosis, Polycystic ovarian syndrome, intestinal problems, and infertility. I have doctor's bills that will probably be on my credit til the day i die because I can't afford to pay them. Does anyone know how we can get the government to acknowledge that we too (the offspring) have and are still suffering from the side effects of agent orange.

My father was a Vietnam vet who recently passed from nasalpharengell (Cancer) caused by A/O. Today aftera visit to the doctor I learned that I was born without an atlas vertebrae (C1). Does anyone know if this could be related?

My daughter has albinism and we have no knowlege of any family history of it and family history is required in both parents in order for it to be naturally occurring. When initially inquiring I was told the incidence of albinism in Vietnam Veterans' children was alot higher, but haven't heard anything since, I'm curious if ther is a compilation of these figures or any further research.

My father was certified as Agent Orange several years ago. He suffered from many health problems including, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, bone cancer, heart disease, strokes, etc. His medical records would fill and room and he practically lived at the VA. He died two and a half years ago. My younger brother (36 years old) also had diabetes and died 6 months ago from heart failure. The coroner said it was from coronary artery disease and his diabetes. I suffer from endometriosis (I am the only one on either side of my family to have it) and have had 4 surgeries to date for it, including abdominal adhesions, bowel adhesions, and ovarian cysts. I also have a heart defect. This chemical is pure evil and the people who made it and used it should burn in hell! I have bills I will never be able to pay, am unable to work due to the constant pain, and was fortunate to have one daughther (which took some effort to even conceive) who I now believe also may have endometriosis. None of us, except my father, has ever been compensated for what has been done to us! It is just deplorable. More so for me since I served in the Army Reserves and was working full-time with them for the US Army Reserve Command in Wichita as a military technician during the First Gulf War!

Thank you everyone for leaving your comments. The more of us, is all the better, when it comes to our Government. However, for those of you who believe in the one who can make a difference, our Mighty God, let's all pray. We can pray together for God to step into this uphill battle with our Government, and lay it up on their hearts to help us. This battle is not yours, it's the lords! Let's just pray, and let God do the rest. That is what we need right now, more than anything. For those of you whom I have offended, hopefully none, I will not apologize for my beliefs. Sorry that I have been gone for a while, but I'm back! Thanks to everyone for posting, it's good to know your not alone.

I am 34 and my father was exposed to Agent Orange when he was in Vietnam. I was born with several birth defects and I still suffer today from the effects of Agent Orange. What really makes me mad is the fact that no one can get help unless you have spina bifida. Agent Orange left more birth defects then just that one. I really enjoyed reading this blog because I have learned a little more about a couple of problems that I had and I never thought about them coming from Agent Orange until I saw that some of you had the same problems. Very interesting.

My Dad has been "attacked" by Agent Orange. I have had different health-related issues since birth. There are no words to explain the many forms of pain that result from Agent Orange. The government needs to step up it's research and acknowledge that the effects stem beyond the primary victim. I appreciate the advice from the person who wrote about prayer. WE NEED to PRAY. The government only has so much control, but God has it ALL. When one truly believes and prays for healing, God will listen. He wants to share his grace, but one must open up his/her heart to receive. God Bless You and your loved ones.

My 30 yr old son just found out he is having a baby girl 10 min ago. Something is wrong w/her. They said there may be something in family history, (which there isnt) that the baby has soemthing wrong with it. I am upset. Then I just remembered that my son's biological father (never in his life), died from agent orange related cancer 4 years ago. My sone has severe Adult ADD, which he won't deal with. It is awful. I know I am rambling, but I fear if I call to remind him of what his bio father died of, he will blame himself......Help!
